Ferry Liguria: What to see and do?
Liguria is one of Italy's most beautiful regions! Whether you arrive by ferry in Genoa, Savona or La Spezia, you'll be enchanted by the wonders this region has to offer.
Genoa, the capital of Liguria, is an excellent starting point for exploring the region. Start your visit in the old town, known as the 'centro storico'. Lose yourself in the narrow streets and discover the many historic palaces, churches and lively squares. Don't miss the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, and the Palazzo Ducale, a magnificent Renaissance palace.
Once you've explored the historic centre, head for the famous promenade, Via Garibaldi. This majestic street is home to sumptuous palaces dating back to the time of the Republic of Genoa. Some of them now house museums, such as the Palazzo Bianco and the Palazzo Rosso, which boast an impressive collection of works of art.
If you're passionate about maritime history, don't miss the "Galata" sea museum, where you can learn more about Genoa's long maritime tradition. The museum also houses a life-size reproduction of a 16th-century galleon, the "Neptune".
From Genoa, you can take a short train ride to Portofino, one of Liguria's most emblematic locations. Nestling in a picturesque bay, this charming fishing village is famous for its colourful houses, narrow streets and lively harbour. Enjoy a delicious seafood meal in one of the seaside restaurants and take a stroll along the coastline to admire the superb sea views.
If you're looking for a beautiful sandy beach, head to Alassio. This charming seaside resort has a wide sandy beach, ideal for relaxing and soaking up the sun. Don't forget to take a stroll along the 'budello', a narrow street lined with shops and restaurants, where you can sample the local specialities.
Finally, don't leave Liguria without visiting the famous Cinque Terre. This group of five villages perched on steep hills is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso offer breathtaking sea views and colourful houses that seem to blend into the landscape. You can explore the Cinque Terre on foot along the panoramic "Sentiero Azzurro" path.
